10 Ways To Reduce Expenses and Save Money Fast

Here are 10 ways to reduce expenses and save money faster.

1. Coupons

Coupons can help you save hundreds of dollars per year. I think of it like free money or found money. So start out slow if you are a coupon newbie. Look for coupons on products that you use daily, throw them in an envelope, and start using them today.

Your budget will thank you!

2. Cable Bill

Turn it off or reduce your cable bill if you simply cannot cut it out altogether. One quick way you can reduce your bill is to stop premium channels or sign up for a packaged deal.

 3. Cell Bill

I encourage you to take a detailed look at your bill and make sure that your usage matches your lifestyle. By adjusting your service slightly, you can save lots of money. In addition, I encourage you to call your provider and see if they recommend any changes to reduce expenses.

4. Phone

If you have a cell phone, what is the point of having a land-line through your local telephone company? Many cable companies have packaged deals with cable, Internet and telephone. This can save you hundreds of dollars per year, so ditch the land-line and start to save money now.

5. Decrease Power Usage

Turn out the lights and turn off appliances, not in use. Start replacing your incandescent lights with Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFL) or Light Emitting Diodes (LED) as your bulbs burn out. Set your computers to sleep and hibernate modes. Take control of your living environment and make it work for you financially.

6.  Trash/Recycle

If your city has a recycling program, participating can reduce your overall waste bill by reducing the amount of trash you accumulate. In addition, you are helping save the environment!

7.  Store Preferred Cards

I say “Sign Me Up!” I think it is a win-win for both the store and you. As you purchase items, the store tracks what you are buying and makes adjustments to suit its customer base. This allows the store to provide products its customers demand and provide you with the best prices. I know some people are concerned about privacy issues regarding “preferred cards”, however, many stores will allow you to remain anonymous so again a win-win for the consumer and the grocer.

8.  Stop Eating Out

I do not know if you have noticed, but prices at fast-food establishments have been skyrocketing. So eating out with a family, while living a frugal lifestyle, is just not in the cards. I am not saying to never go out to a nice dinner with the family if it fits into your budget. However, going through the drive-through on a daily basis is extremely expensive, plus not to mention the health risks associated with eating fast food.

9.  Start Using The Library

A neighbor of mine once chuckled when I said I was going to stop by the library. He said he had not used the library since he was a kid and that he always bought his books at a bookstore or online. Interestingly he was a mortgage broker; I think he goes to the library now. The library is a terrific resource, not only for children but also for adults.

Save money, use the library.
It is free, unless you return the books late.

10.  Sell A Car

We recently sold our Mercedes, so I honestly do talk-the-talk and walk-the-walk (all while losing weight, being free of debt, and living the frugal lifestyle.) Was it hard?

Yes, extraordinarily difficult and I tried to defend every possible reason to stay in debt. Nevertheless, the bottom line was that owing money on a car is never going to propel my family and me to a better life. Living without a car is possible because we made tough decisions by readjusting our life. If we need a car, we rent it. If we need to go somewhere locally, we use public transportation.

Will we ever get another vehicle? Of course, when we have cash in hand.
